I. Overview
This is Granata's Op. 2 and his first of two engraved tablatures. It is very closely related to Op. 3 (Granata 1651), with most of the pieces being reused in the later book.

Col.mo Non v'hà frà le Arti Liberali chi sia più degna d'impiegar l'animo d'un Prencipe della MUSICA posciache con le misure, e con le consonanze unendo questa in soave concerto le voci discordi, mostra in se una vera imagine della prudenza con cui deve un PRENCIPE governare i suoi STATI concordando (quasi buon Musico) le voci sregolate à è Sudditi, e mantenendoli nella perfetta armonia dello Stato politico. QUEsto considerando io, ECCELLENTISSIMO P[ad]rone, mi muovo à ragione à farle umilmente dono di questa mie brieve factica, e con'essa dell'affetto dell'animo mio e di tutto me stesso, massime restando io accertato quanto il di lei Nobilissimo Ingegno fiorisca nelle VIRTU' degne di Cavagliere, e di Prencipe trà le quali non dovendo avere il minor luogo, come hò detto, la MUSICA, mi persuado d'essere dalla di lei magnanimità non totalmente malgradito di che con ogni affetto, e riverenza supplicandola profondamente m'inchino à protestarmi eternamente . . .
